Event Description

Arts at Oakland presents Golden Hour Opening Party

*Advanced Ticket sales end at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 19. Day-of tickets available at the gate.

Golden Hour happens twice a day, at sunrise and sunset. These transitions in time mirror the moment we enter into life and the moment we leave it.

Golden Hour, an outdoor exhibition by Dashboard U.S. and guest-curated by Oshun Layne, explores these moments thorugh 11 site-specific installations by local and regional artists that alter a viewer's perception.

What's Happening? Art. Music. Food. Drinks.

Come and celebrate at the opening party of the exhibition Golden Hour at Historic Oakland Cemetery.

In addition to the rare opportunity to explore Oakland after dark, throughout the evening you will be able to interact with the installations during the golden hour (sunset 8:34 p.m.), enjoy performances by DJ Cozy Shawn, Florista, and cellist Okorie Johnson, hang out at the Golden Hour cafe with local food trucks and bars selling some of ATL's finest food and beverages (including Old Fourth Distillery's Golden Hour cocktail made with Old Fourth's Oakland Gin).

Advance general admission tickets for the opening are $15 (plus fees), $20 at the gate, and $10 for college students with valid ID.

Upgrade to a VIP ticket to attend a private VIP opening with curator Oshun Layne, Dashboard U.S., and participating artists from 5:00-6:30 p.m., get 10% off purchases of Golden Hour prints; and access to an open bar (from 5:00-6:30 p.m.) and VIP lounge with air-conditioned inside restrooms throughout the evening. VIP's also get 20% off framing at Frame This when you show your ticket.

What is Golden Hour?

There are two times of the day considered the Golden Hour: sunrise and sunset. Metaphorically these transitions in time can mirror the moment we enter into life and the moment we leave it. Golden Hour, an exhibition curated by Oshun Layne, explores these moments through a series of site-specific installations that alter a viewer’s perception. Installations will include sound, light, and mixed media works. Golden Hour is produced in collaboration with Dashboard U.S.

Will there be Golden Hour merch available?

T-shirts, koozies, and a limited run of Golden Hour prints, created by the participating artists, will be available to purchase throughout the event.

What else is going on?

Where does my money go?

Since its creation in 1976, Historic Oakland Foundation (HOF) has restored about 20% of Oakland Cemetery. Proceeds from Golden Hour, and all of our events and programs, goes towards HOF’s mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta’s oldest public burial ground and most tangible link to the past.
