Sam August has been described as believable, accessible and a breath of fresh air. Ontario native Sam August is a 27 year old singer-songwriter, producer and multi-musician who’s powerful vocals sound far beyond her years. This self-taught guitarist picked up her first guitar at the early age of 8 and since then has written hundreds of soul-telling songs inspired by her life and influences from the world around her.
Growing up, she was drawn to a wide variety of music genres. She lists Sam Cooke, Brandi Carlile, B.B King, Stevie Wonder, Carole king, Tracy Chapman, Journey and The Goo Goo Dolls as some of her main influences. As a music-lover of the classics, you can probably find Sam rummaging through local vinyl record shops or your parent’s record collection in the attic in her free time.
Sam has a natural ability to create, work with and combine many genres such as singer songwriter, soul, blues, pop, rock, R&B, folk , etc. She wishes to create new sounds and leave a positive impact through her relatable, uplifting and raw music.
With her old soul yet youthful heart, truthful lyrics and warm smile, Sam has already begun to capture the attention of all ages with her "Be yourself, dream big" attitude.
Here’s a side to Atlanta’s music scene that you probably haven’t heard all that much about, but as with her hip-hop counterparts, Macy Todd’s style brims with confidence. Her music is self-assured, even as she begins to explore new genres. Since the tender age of fourteen, Macy Todd has been writing songs - bubbling pop in college, rich blues a year ago, and now a left-field indie-pop song that reminds us of a certain Maggie Rogers or Diana Gordon. The base of Todd’s new single ‘Flying’ is certainly pop, but it’s the playful freeform kind that keeps you tuned in with weird synths, jovial percussion, upbeat acoustic guitar, and the funky punch of bass. Of course, the first thing that will draw a listener in is Todd’s voice, which at first is just above a whisper, before launching into a soulful declaration 'I feel like I’m flying again'. As Todd herself explains of the song, “my favourite music has always been music that leaves me lighter than before,” and that’s exactly what ‘Flying’ does, especially in the chorus; a happy triumph above it all. Macy Todd’s message sandwiched in the song could be just the thing an unexpecting listener needs to hear right now: "no matter what you’re going through, there is redemption, and you have to be okay with starting from ground zero.” - Hannah Thacker at The Mostradicalist
